August 2024

The Dirty Gerund Poetry Show is a weekly open mic at Ralph's Rock Diner on Grove Street in Worcester. I am the house band leader and a regular performer. Any and all are welcome to sign up to express themselves creatively with this loving and supportive community. Open mic list goes up at 8pm, the show starts at 9pm.

I am delighted to be one of the many incredible musicians participating in the Wormtown Ska Fest! I’ll be playing on the 16th with the Ska-leton Crew and on the 18th with Fair Dinkum!

Ska-leton Crew (Does it have a hyphen or not? Well it was easier to social media without a hyphen but we still like how it looks in the logo) is a ska/punk/whatever band that writes songs about the spooky, supernatural, queerness, mental health, and neurodivergence.

Fair Dinkum! is a premier jazz+ duo composed of MathDad SaxMan and AP, two Worcester-based musicians that just love the heck out of each other and sharing that love through music. Playing originals written by AP, as well as favorites from jazz and soul to classic rock, Fair Dinkum! is a little crew that brings a big sound and even bigger smiles.

Introducing: Maiyah!

My little sister from another mister, Maiyah, has so graciously stepped up to help me out with the promotional side of things. Everyone say, “THANK YOU MAIYAH!”

She is a graduate of Keefe Regional Technical High School in Framingham, where she studied visual art and graphic design. Maiyah has provided me with much insight on how to improve my social media presence, from regular weekly posts to little digital editing tips and tricks. Maiyah will be present at many of my live performances to take pictures and videos for the ‘gram. We’re still working on getting the ball rolling, but I am so very thankful to have her help!

Fuck It, We Bald!

On Saturday the 20th of July, I decided, while working at the diner, that I was finally going to follow through on what I’ve been talking up for the last month - give myself a buzz cut.

My regular stylist recently moved to Providence to live with her fiancee (love and miss you, Jiji!), so I had to find another. I gave Fleet Street Barber Company on Grafton Street a try, but wasn’t quite happy with what I left with (nothing against them!! I plan to go back next time I need a good styling). My friend Birch shortened it with their clippers on Friday, but I still wasn’t loving it. So when I got home from work on Saturday, I set to work with Birch’s clippers to follow the inspiration that several other community members have helped transpire in me.

I’m incredibly happy with how it came out! Lookit me, I’m a fuzzy lil peach! It’s so much lighter and cooler, especially on these hot summer days. Andrew says I look like my dad, and he’s not wrong, especially when I’m wearing a bandana on my head.

There is only one other time in my life where I’ve had a cut this short, and it wasn’t exactly my favorite thing. I’d like to share with you a poem that I wrote to illustrate that experience and the journey that led me to loving this new look. Thanks for being here with me!
